THE MEDIA VOICE OF THE GLOBAL MARINA INDUSTRY

UK: Timothy West opens Shakespeare Marina

Long-awaited 250-berth Shakespeare Marina on the River Avon in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England was officially opened on 27th May by Timothy West CBE. The marina was developed by Geomac, part of the Land & Water Group.

As a renowned theatre actor, a great canal boat enthusiast and a patron of the Avon Navigation Trust, West could not have been a more fitting guest of honour. He has spent three seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has filmed ten series of Channel 4’s ‘Great Canal Journeys’ with his wife Prunella Scales.

Set in a rural location beside the River Avon, Shakespeare Marina is less than a ten-minute walk from the town centre and its highly popular tourist attractions. It is set to become a prime location for boating enthusiasts as it gives access to the Avon Ring (a canal cruising loop) and the national canal network. The basin is designed to look like a natural body of water.
Shakespeare Marina is one of six marinas developed by Geomar and constructed by the Land & Water Group. It has been designed and built using sustainable solutions, such as the re-use of spoil material and recycled steel piles to minimise waste and reduce carbon footprint.
